This community clean-up is simple, practical, and open to anyone who wants to help care for shared green space. With the generous help of UTACA, volunteers will collect litter, tidy public areas, and help make the park safer and more welcoming for everyone who uses it. Volunteer hours are provided!

The event is planned for two hours, which makes it easy to join even with a busy weekend schedule. A short cleanup can still make a visible difference, especially in parks where litter collects near paths, open fields, playground areas, benches, and fence lines.

Volunteers do not need special experience. The main goal is to show up, work safely, and help remove waste from the park before it can spread further into soil, storm drains, natural areas, or nearby streets.

Why this cleanup matters

Parks are shared spaces. Families use them for walks and play. Students pass through them on the way home. Neighbours visit them for fresh air, exercise, and quiet time. When litter builds up, the whole space feels neglected.

Cleanups help in several practical ways:

  • They remove plastic, cans, wrappers, and other waste from public areas.

  • They reduce the chance of litter being carried by wind or rain.

  • They make paths and grassy areas more pleasant to use.

  • They remind the community that local spaces deserve care.

  • They give volunteers a direct way to help the environment close to home.

A park cleanup also sends a quiet but powerful message. It shows that people are paying attention. When a community cares for a place, that care often spreads. People become more likely to use bins, notice local environmental issues, and take pride in the spaces around them.

What to bring for a safe and comfortable afternoon

Project Renviramp and UTACA will provide many of the key cleanup supplies, but volunteers should dress for the weather and the work.

Please bring or wear:

  • A refillable water bottle

  • Long sleeves and long pants

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • Sun protection, such as sunscreen, sunglasses, or a hat

Long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes help protect against scratches, bugs, dirt, and sharp objects that may be hidden in grass or leaves. Even on a mild May afternoon, sun protection is a good idea when spending two hours outdoors.

Water is also important. Cleanup work is not complicated, but walking, bending, and carrying bags can be tiring, especially if the day is warm.

Supplies available at the event will include:

  • Snacks

  • Garbage bags

  • Trash grabbers

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Gloves

These supplies will make the clean-up easier and safer. Gloves and grabbers are especially helpful because volunteers should avoid touching unknown items directly.

How volunteers can help during the cleanup

The work will likely be divided into simple tasks based on the needs of the park that day. Some volunteers may collect litter along walking paths. Others may focus on grassy areas, benches, tree lines, or spots where waste tends to gather.

Good cleanup habits make the event safer for everyone:

  • Pick up only what feels safe to handle.

  • Use gloves or a trash grabber whenever possible.

  • Ask an organizer before touching sharp, heavy, or unusual items.

  • Stay aware of cyclists, walkers, children, and pets in the park.

  • Work with another person when moving through less visible areas.

  • Wash or sanitize hands after handling cleanup materials.

Volunteers should also follow any instructions shared by Project Renviramp on the day of the event. The organizers will help guide the group and keep the cleanup moving smoothly.

How to join the cleanup

Anyone planning to attend should register in advance using the event form. Registration helps organizers prepare enough supplies and plan for the right number of volunteers.

Please sign up using the official form here: register for the Pheasant Hollow Park community clean-up.

After registering, mark the date on your calendar and plan to arrive a little before 2:00 p.m. That gives enough time to check in, gather supplies, and get ready before the cleanup begins.

Let’s leave the park better than we found it

The Pheasant Hollow Park cleanup is a small commitment with a clear result. In just two hours, volunteers can remove litter, protect local green space, and show that environmental care belongs in everyday community life.

Bring a water bottle, dress safely, and come ready to help. On May 16, 2026, every bag filled and every piece of litter removed will make Pheasant Hollow Park a cleaner place to enjoy.
